Choc Hazelnut Protein Balls

Protein balls are a quick and easy snack to make and keep on hand when the craving for a healthy yet delicious treat strikes.

This no-bake recipe is not only easy to follow, it has no added sugar and instead gives you the energy and sweetness you need from hazelnuts, dates and coconut. This treat is good for you and will keep you fuelled for hours.

Ingredients

  • 10 medjool dates, pitted
  • 1½ cups of hazelnuts
  • 2/3 cup of rolled oats
  • 2 tbs cocoa powder
  • ½ cup shredded coconut, toasted, plus extra for rolling
  • ½ cup water

Directions

  1. Place hazelnuts on a baking tray and toast in oven at 200 degrees Celsius for ~10 minutes.
  2. Once toasted, allow to cool and rub to remove skins.
  3. Place nuts into food processer and blend until no big chunks remain. Remove from food processor.
  4. To toast coconut, heat a non-stick fry pan over medium heat and toast until coconut starts to colour.
  5. Place dates into food processor and blend for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Add nuts, oats, coconut, cocoa and half of the water and blend. Slowly add the remaining water until the mixture comes together. More water may be needed.
  7. Form into ping-pong ball sized balls and roll in coconut.
  8. Refrigerate until needed.
